Supporting the Black community

The persistence of systemic racism and white supremacy is a deep-rooted problem in our nation and has given rise to systems built to oppress and kill underrepresented groups. The Black community is a clear target of this system: Black Americans are two-and-a-half times as likely as white Americans to be killed by police officers, Black people are dying of COVID-19 at a rate nearly 2 times higher than their population share)- and these are only a few examples of the oppression and racial violence that the Black community continue to experience.

This is a reality that we do not accept. It is our collective responsibility to speak out and take action.

The Seattle Hub of Global Shapers expresses solidarity with the Black lives that have been lost and voices that have been silenced. You are seen, you are heard, and your pain is not going unnoticed.

Today, and moving forward, we must unite to amplify the voices of the Black community and drive tangible, systemic changes in our society. For those who have the capacity, here are a few ideas that may help.
